Getting to know Massimo – interview
To better introduce Massimo to our team, partners, and community, we sat down with him for a short interview. We talked about his career path, vision for the Italian market, and even uncovered a few surprising facts from outside the office. Read on to learn what drives him, what he’s passionate about, and how he sees the future of Newline in Italy.
1. Your career spans over two decades in the tech industry. Could you share a few milestones that shaped your professional growth?
Absolutely. It’s been an incredibly rich and rewarding journey, during which I’ve had the opportunity to take on a wide variety of roles – from marketing to sales, all the way to leading the Italian subsidiary. What made it particularly formative was experiencing these roles across very different corporate and market phases, which allowed me to broaden my perspective and fully leverage my creativity and passion. Among the milestones I’m most proud of, I’d highlight the development of the digital products division. We managed to transform Italy from one of the weakest performers in Europe to the top team in terms of both revenue and margin – a real turning point for us. Another key experience was rebuilding the Italian subsidiary after a major global restructuring. That meant redefining our strategy and operations from the ground up, aligning them with the company’s new size, priorities, and product offering. Both experiences taught me a lot about resilience, vision, and the power of execution.
2. You’ve held various leadership roles across Toshiba and Dynabook. What did you find most rewarding and challenging in those experiences?
One of the most rewarding aspects has definitely been leading very diverse teams toward a shared goal – aligning people with different backgrounds, skills, and perspectives, and helping them work together with motivation and a strong sense of belonging. Making everyone feel part of the project and the outcome was not only personally gratifying, but also made it easier to achieve our targets and build a positive, stimulating working environment. Of course, managing such heterogeneous teams came with its challenges, but by fostering collaboration and a clear vision, we were able to overcome the obstacles we faced along the way. That ability to turn complexity into strength is something I’ve always valued in my leadership journey.
3. What motivated you to join Newline Interactive at this stage of your career?
Newline is at a very exciting and pivotal stage in its evolution, and that was a key motivator for me. I saw a great opportunity to bring my experience and energy to help shape its growth and establish it as a leading player – not only in interactive displays, but across the broader Audio-Visual market. What really drew me in was the high quality of the products, the strength of having a solid manufacturing base and R&D center behind us, and the energy of the European team – young, cohesive, and highly motivated. It all makes this challenge extremely compelling and one I’m truly excited to be part of.
4. What are your key priorities and goals as Country Manager for Italy in your first 6–12 months?
One of my top priorities is to build a strong and motivated local team, capable of effectively managing the wide range of opportunities the Italian market has to offer. Equally important is strengthening collaboration with our distributors and consolidating a loyal and qualified network of resellers who can represent Newline effectively across different regions and market segments. In this initial phase, team, distribution, and channel partners are the three foundational pillars on which we’ll build sustainable growth in Italy.
5. How do you see the current state and future potential of the Italian market for interactive and collaborative technologies?
The Italian market is traditionally one of the most challenging in Europe, due to its high level of fragmentation and the often fragile economic situation of many businesses. Interactive and collaborative technologies have made solid inroads in the education sector, but they still need to be fully adopted and integrated within the professional and corporate world. That said, the potential is significant. There’s still a lot of work to be done in terms of market education – helping companies understand the real operational benefits and the impact these solutions can have on internal processes and productivity. With the right approach, Italy can become a strong growth area for this segment.
6. Based on your experience, what strategies do you think work best in engaging channel partners in Italy?
In my view, resellers must be an integral part of our overall strategy. It’s essential that they feel involved and supported throughout the journey. This starts with effective training on our products and solutions, so they can confidently represent the brand and deliver value to customers. Equally important is protecting the business they develop, offering appropriate incentives, and being actively present alongside them in all initiatives aimed at generating new opportunities. Building strong, trust-based relationships and supporting our partners in serving their clients effectively – that’s what makes the difference in the Italian market.
7. What values guide your approach to leadership and team collaboration?
I strongly believe in breaking down traditional corporate hierarchies and working side by side with the team, on the same level. For me, leadership means taking responsibility not just for the results, but also for the challenges and difficulties each team member may face – and tackling them together. This collaborative, hands-on approach has always helped me create an effective and harmonious environment where people feel supported, valued, and motivated to reach shared goals. When everyone feels they’re truly part of the journey, great things happen.
8. How do you plan to align Newline’s global mission with the local dynamics of the Italian market?
If we succeed in clearly communicating the quality of our offering, Newline’s philosophy, and the benefits we can provide to the many customers and resellers that characterize the Italian market, the global mission and local dynamics will naturally align. To achieve this, it’s essential to carry out intensive work on the ground, supported by our distribution partners and a variety of targeted marketing activities. This combined approach will help us bridge the global vision with local needs effectively.
9. What keeps you passionate about the tech industry after so many years?
Considering how challenging this market is compared to others, this might actually be the hardest question to answer. What truly keeps me passionate is seeing our products and solutions in action – and feeling the real support and appreciation people receive through them. That positive impact has always given me a great sense of fulfillment. Maybe that’s why I wake up every morning with the same enthusiasm and curiosity I had on my very first day at work, ready to tackle whatever comes next.
10. Tell us something about yourself that your colleagues might be surprised to learn!
I actually use cooking as a form of therapy. Being in the kitchen helps me clear my mind from all the thoughts and stress. I decide what I feel like making, then I read through various recipes and create my own version by mixing the elements that inspire me the most. The only problem is that I never write anything down, so most of my dishes end up being unique and impossible to replicate!
Thank you for your time and good luck! We’re excited about what’s ahead and confident that your leadership will help drive our growth across the Italian market.
