Newline Interactive Achieves CASA Tier 2 Certification for Whiteboard and Signage Pro

We are delighted to share that our Newline Whiteboard and Newline Signage Pro applications have been officially certified with CASA Tier 2 (Cloud Application Security Assessment), following a rigorous evaluation conducted by DEKRA DIGITAL. This achievement underscores our commitment to security, trust, and long-term reliability in the world of cloud-connected interactive displays.

What is CASA, and Why It Matters

In today’s interconnected software ecosystem, applications often interact with cloud services, APIs, and third-party platforms. While cloud infrastructure (servers, networks, storage) has seen major advances in security, the application layer remains one of the most vulnerable attack surfaces. That’s precisely where CASA comes into play.

CASA (Cloud Application Security Assessment) is an industry-standard framework developed by the App Defense Alliance in collaboration with Google. It is built directly on OWASP’s ASVS (Application Security Verification Standard), and offers:

  • Standardized requirements: No proprietary rules or confusing security jargon — CASA uses the transparent, community-recognized baseline of ASVS.
  • Uniform evaluation: All applications are evaluated against the same criteria, reducing ambiguity in security expectations.
  • Risk-based tiers: Rather than a “one size fits all” approach, CASA adapts the depth of assessment to the application’s risk profile, scope, and sensitivity.

In short: CASA bridges the gap between cloud infrastructure hardening and secure application behavior, providing a trusted, verifiable endorsement of application security.

The CASA Tier System: How Deep Do You Go?

CASA divides assessments into tiers, corresponding to the application’s risk and complexity:

  • Tier 1 – Entry level, for low-risk applications.
  • Tier 2 – Intermediate level, designed for apps using sensitive or restricted APIs (this is where Whiteboard and NSP qualify).
  • Tier 3 – Highest level, used for high-risk applications requiring in-depth manual review, infrastructure assessment, possibly source code review, etc.

By achieving Tier 2, our solutions have demonstrated compliance with a significant set of security practices, including automated scanning, reporting, and validation from an authorized assessment lab.

What the Tier 2 Certification Means for Newline Products

Obtaining this certification is more than a badge — it brings concrete benefits to our users, partners, and the product ecosystem:

  • Access to restricted Google APIs: Many Google services (e.g., Gmail, Calendar, Fitness) require higher assurance from client apps accessing them. The CASA Tier 2 certification helps ensure our applications meet those requirements.
  • Stronger market trust: Schools, enterprises, and governmental institutions increasingly demand third-party validation of security practices before investing in hardware or software.
  • Regulatory alignment: Adhering to CASA’s framework brings closer alignment with GDPR, ISO, and other compliance regimes that emphasize data protection and application security
  • Competitive differentiation: In RFPs, bids, and procurement cycles, certified solutions stand out more clearly from uncertified alternatives.
  • Stability and continuity: With certification, we reduce the risk of sudden loss of API access or forced redesigns due to evolving security demands — safeguarding product longevity.

Newline Whiteboard & Newline Signage Pro: Audited and Approved

Both Newline Whiteboard and NSP were assessed by DEKRA DIGITAL, an independent authorized laboratory, and successfully passed all required evaluation steps. The certifications are valid through September 2026, during which time our solutions are officially recognized as compliant with CASA Tier 2 standards. In a world where cloud services and interconnected applications are the norm, security cannot be an afterthought. Achieving CASA Tier 2 is proof that we place it front and center. With this certification, Newline is better positioned to deliver advanced, API-rich applications that schools, corporates, and institutions can adopt with confidence.
