Adding Material to Your Board: #
- Can I paste images from external sources onto my board?
- Copy an image using Ctrl+C (Command+C on Mac) and paste into the whiteboard using Ctrl+V (Command+V on Mac).
- Can I simply drag and drop material to whiteboard?
- Yes, select the image, PDF, audio or video file from your computer or browser window and drag and drop on your board directly.
- How to upload a file to the whiteboard?
- The “Upload File” option from the left side tool bar lets you select a file to upload to the board. You can upload files from your computer or directly from a Google Drive account.
- The following formats are supported:
- When uploading from your computer: PDF, PNG, JPEG Files
- When uploading from Google Drive: Google Docs, Google Slides, Google Sheets, PDF, PNG and JPEG files
- Note: When you import a Google Doc, Slide, or Sheet, they will come in as a static image.
- For multi-page PDFs, each page adds as its own page in the whiteboard. You can switch between pages of the uploaded PDF file by using the “<<” and “>>” controls or directly typing in the page number in the lower left corner of the board.
- How can I create a live class material before the beginning of the class and use it for future classes?
- Once you have uploaded your worksheets and/or other teaching material to an instructor board, you can “Save a Copy” of this board for your future classes.
- Subsequently, after logging-in, from the instructor board, you can click on “Manage Boards” to see all of your previously saved and copied boards.
- Select the one for the class you are currently conducting by clicking on the “View” icon (eyeball). It will take you to your previously saved board.
- Now you can start inviting students just like you would usually do.
Saving and Sharing Boards: #
- Can all the boards be saved into one PDF file after the class has ended? How can I do that?
- Yes. To save PDF files of all of your student boards, click on the “Download & Share” (cloud) icon at the top of your board.
- You will have an option to download only your board or copies of your student boards. You will have three options for saving student boards:
- Whole Class – Single Page: You can choose a single page of each student’s board to download. This is a great option if you’re only grading “page 5” of the board, for example.
- Whole Class – Single PDF: This option allows you to download each student’s board in one large PDF. You can choose to download every page within the board or a range of pages.
- Whole Class – One PDF per Scholar: This option allows you to download each student’s work as their own individual PDF. You can choose to download every page within the board or a range of pages.
- After choosing your download method, you can find the PDF(s) in the downloads folder of your computer.
- How can I re-use my previously saved boards for future classes?
- After logging-in, locate the board you’d like to open on the “Manage Boards” page. Launch the board by selecting the View (eye) icon next to the board’s title.
Accessing Boards After Class: #
- Will students have access to their boards even after the class has ended?
- Yes. This can work in two ways. If students have signed-up and have logged-in, they can use “Manage Boards” on the left side panel to save their board for future use.
- If students have not signed-up, they can always use the invite link in the same browser/device to go back to their boards. This will follow the same policy as teacher boards – students boards will have no expiration date.
- For storage on your local computer or cloud drive, you can “export” your board (Tools →Manage Book →Export Board), save the downloaded file.
- Is it possible to prevent students from adding/updating the boards after the class has ended?
- Yes. A teacher can lock the boards, so students can not make any changes after the due date.
- From the Instructor board, a teacher can click on the Participants Panel on the upper right, and it will open up a pop-up window.
- Select “Lock Class.” This will lock all student boards, and they will see a message “Board Locked by Teacher”.
- To unlock, simply click on the Participants Panel on the upper right and select “Unlock Class.”
Newline Engage Cloud with Zoom and Google Meet: #
- How can Newline Engage Cloud work with Zoom or Google Meet-up video conferencing?
- You can use Zoom or Google Meet to start your video conferencing, and launch Newline Engage Cloud from your browser in a separate window.
- Once on instructor board, you can invite students by copying the link in the Zoom or Google Meet chat window.
- Students can click on that link and join the whiteboards in their own browser as a separate window to the video conferencing or as a separate tab in the same browser
