- How can I invite students to my live class?
- Click on the “Invite” button available at the top right corner of the board.
- This will open up a dialogue box with multiple ways for you to invite students to your class. See options below:
- Share your screen with students attending your audio/video conferencing, showing the QR code that your students can scan using their tablets/mobile devices with camera and directly join your class
- Share the 6 digit class code, and ask students to visit https://www.newline-engage.com/, enter the class code and click on “Join Class”
- Copy and paste the link to your board to your LMS for students to click and join your class
- Click on “Email link” to send the link to your board in an email to your students
- Click on “Google Classroom” or “Microsoft Teams” icons to directly place link to your board at Google Classroom or Microsoft Teams
- Can I control who joins my class?
- By default anyone who has access to the link to your board can join your class. Students are only required to enter their names. No registration or login to Newline Engage Cloud is required.
- If you’d like to mandate student registration or login to Newline Engage Cloud to access boards, you can do this by selecting that option under “Settings”–>”Only Logged In Users Can Join Board.”
- Where can I see the list participants who have joined my class?
- Click on the “Avatars” or face pics bubbles at top right of your board to open the “Participants Panel,” where you can see the list of all participants of your board.
- Can students see each other’s boards?
- This depends on the type of board you create.
- If you create a “Teacher Mode” board, students can not see each other’s boards. They can only see what the teacher is writing/drawing which gets replicated on all students’ boards.
- If you create a “Collaborate” board, all students will be able anything added to the board by any student.
- How can a teacher see all of their students’ work in real time?
- Once students are invited and have joined a “Teacher Mode” board, a teacher can click on “Grid View” at the bottom of their instructor board.
- It will take them to a new screen where they can see a birds-eye view of students boards, 25 at a time, in 5 rows of 5 columns each. This is configurable using “Grid Settings” on the top left of the Grid View.
- If the class has more than 25 students, a teacher can go to the next 25 students boards by clicking on page numbers on the lower left corner of their board.
- They can use the page numbers to go back and forth and have a complete view of all of their students boards in real-time.
- How can a teacher join a student’s board or look at what they are doing?
- From the Grid View, a teacher can click on any student’s board to zoom in and expand their board to view their work in real time.
- To join the student’s board and leave real-time feedback, select a student’s board from Grid View, then click on “Join.” To go back to your Instructor’s board, click on “Go to Instructor” on the lower center of the board.
- How can I add a co-teacher to my class?
- Adding a co-teacher is very easy. First, click on the “Participants Panel” on the upper right corner of the board.
- It will open up a pop-up window where you will see all participants listed. Click on “Make Co-teacher” to make a particular participant co-teacher of your board.
- Additionally, you can share a co-teacher link with another teacher if they are not currently joined to the board. Select “Invite” –> “Show Co-Teacher Invite.”
- How can I showcase a student’s work to the whole class?
- Option 1: Click on the “Participants Panel.” Then, click “Showcase” next to the student whose board you’d like to share.
- Option 2: Open the Grid View, then select the student’s board you’d like to share. Select “Showcase.”
- Is it possible to enforce students to be on the same page as teacher and not flip through the pages?
- Click on the “Participants’ Panel” in the top right corner of the board.
- Enable “Follow Teacher” to force students to be on the same page as teacher.
- Is it possible to prevent students from adding/updating the boards after the class had ended?
- Yes. A teacher can lock the boards, so students can not make any changes after the due date.
- From the Instructor board, a teacher can click on the Participants Panel on the upper right, and it will open up a pop-up window.
- Select “Lock Class.” This will lock all student boards, and they will see a message “Board Locked by Teacher”.
- To unlock, simply click on the Participants Panel on the upper right and select “Unlock Class.”
- How can Newline Engage Cloud work with Zoom or Google Meet video conferencing?
- You can use Zoom or Google Meet to start your video conferencing, and launch Newline Engage Cloud from your browser in a separate window.
- Once on instructor board, you can invite students by copying the link in the Zoom or Google Meet chat window.
- Students can click on that link and join the whiteboards in their own browser as a separate window to the video conferencing or as a separate tab in the same browser
- How can a student ask for help? How will the teacher know who needs help?
- Whenever a student needs any help or assistance from a teacher, they can click on the “Hand” icon on their board’s upper right.
- A message with the student’s name will pop-up under the “Hand” icon on the instructor’s board.
- At this time, the instructor can switch to grid view, and click on a student’s board to zoom in. Clicking on “Join” will allow the teacher to go to student’s board and address their concern.
- Once the questions/concerns are addressed, the student can click on the same “Hand” icon again to bring down their hand.
- How can a teacher conduct a timed activity with students?
- From the instructor’s board, click on the “Timer” icon along the top toolbar. You will have three timer options:
- Instant Start for All Participants: The timer will begin immediately after you click “set timer.”
- Expires At Time: The timer will end at a time specified by you.
- Tip: This is a great way to lock a board after an assignment deadline, such as the end of the class period or 11:59 pm.
- Per Student (On Join): Each student will receive the same amount of time starting from when they join the board.
- Tip: This is a great tool if students are completing independent work or a homework activity where they may be joining the board at different times.
- After selecting the type of timer you’d like, enter the time (in minutes) that you’d like to appear on the timer.
- You can also choose to lock the board after the timer ends, ensuring that students cannot make changes. To enable this feature, toggle “Auto Lock Relevant Boards On Timer Expiry” to on.
- Click on “Set Timer,” and a timer will show up on all students boards.
- Tip: To stop the timer prematurely, just click on the “Timer” icon inside the timer.
